The international rowing reagatta BaselHead is the largest VIIIs race in German-speaking countries. 100 crews from about ten countries chase each other over a 6.4 kilometer course through the middle of Basel.
The course goes upstream under three bridges in central Basel, turns a full 180°, and returns downstream. Beside the head race the 350 meter “Three King’s” sprint is the main attraction. Thousands of fans cheer on the crews. The long-distance race starts and finishes near the “Mittlere Brücke” bridge.
It’s a demanding course both for athletes and coxes, and an excellent showcase for the sport of rowing.
